Steve's Driving School Sheffield - Free Theory Test Tuition and Hazard Perception Training

Your driving theory and hazard perception tests are designed to help you understand common concepts in driving so you can be fully prepared for when you take your test and after you pass.

Driving Theory Test

During your driving lessons in Sheffield and the surrounding area your instructor will help you prepare for your theory test and hazard perception test by identifying different traffic signs and road markings and explaining the rules of the road as you drive. Your instructor will also give you mock theory tests to be completed in your own time. When you’re ready to take your test you can book your theory test online or your instructor will be happy to book on your behalf and the current cost for the theory test is £31. When you take your test you will be asked to answer 50 multiple choice questions and you have to answer 43 correctly to pass.

Hazard Perception Test

As part of your theory test you will also take a hazard perception test which will test your ability in identifying hazards when driving. There are 13 video clips and you have to click the mouse button every time you see a possible hazard. During your driving lessons your instructor will help you prepare for this test by identifying potential hazards and also encouraging you to plan ahead and use visual scanning techniques to help identify hazards.

You are scored on the developing hazard which is the hazard that you would need to take action to avoid by slowing down or changing direction. The scores operate on a sliding scale starting at 5 points and going down to 0 points depending on how quickly you identify the hazard.  There is also one double hazard clip.

The maximum score is 70 and you will need to get 44 points to achieve a pass mark.

At the moment you have to pass both the multiple choice questions and the hazard perception section to successfully pass your theory test. However, the DSA are looking at splitting these tests in the near future, with the multiple choice section having to be passed first before you can take the hazard perception segment.

Only when you have passed both parts will you be allowed to book a driving test. To find out more information on driving lessons in the Sheffield area call Steve on 0800 458 7449 or email drivingtuition@talktalk.net.
